About That 'Panzer Pope' Thing...

Mark isn't impressed by the Left's attacks on the Pope's supposed Nazi past.

It's even worse than that! Thanks to Nick in the comments to this post, for pointing out the dubious history of the left's majority shareholder, Spectre No 1 a.k.a George Soros.

Yes, Soros's own position was indisputably worse even than Ratzinger's, but on the flip side, he both profited personally and remains unrepentant about doing so. Besides, under the left's new Pope Rules, it looks like anything short of ritual suicide counts as collaboration anyway.

Atheists: Still Desperatly Seeking Relevance

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.........

I'd put it all down to Daddy issues, except for the amusing bit at the end. Yes, indeed, there's nowt so behind the times as the avant garde.

I Have A Few Labels For Them

Here's one for the modern philosophers: how often do you have to screw up not to be the Smartest People In The Room any more?

Question D'Jour

If the hard, hard, hard-line Atheists (as opposed to mere 'atheists') are the smartest people in the room, how come they can't work out just why Tesco adverts use a chirpy slogan like 'every little helps' rather than simply screaming 'why do you retarded morons insist on shopping at obviously inferior supermarkets'?

UPDATE:

The big issue, I think, is that Tesco are trying to get people to buy into their product, hence a friendly, upbeat message, while too many Atheists seem to be mainly concerned with proving how everyone who isn't them is stoopid.

Liberals: Always The Weak Horse

Atheists are enraged! - as only they can be - by the news that the NHS spends up to £40 million pa on hospital chaplains. They think that if people want to spew nonsense at the seriously ill, they should go and become proper psychiatrists.

And no, that isn't just me going for a cheap shot. Key point:
The researchers accept many people believe the drugs do work for them, but argue that could be a placebo effect - people feel better simply because they are taking a medication which they think will help them.
Hmmm.... do you think this 'placebo effect' could apply anywhere else?

More to the point, in so far as the placebo effect is a well-known phenomenon, in what sense of the word is the NSS's crusade against religion in hospitals based on actual science?

Still, while the NSS campaigns for the comforting of the sick and dying to be carried out only where said comforting can be demonstrated to show observable improvements in the degree of comfortage, I can't help feeling they're missing a lot else.

When most people think of faith-based lunacy, they're probably not thinking of some Priest performing the last rites. Nope, they're probably thinking something like this.

I don't have the objective data to back this up, but I'm pretty sure these people are nuts. So where is the NSS? Nope - they're tied up staking out some OAPs bed, investigating a case of Class A Communion With Intent.

Today's Free Money Story

I'll start believing the government needs to raise taxes to fund ospitalsanskools just as soon as they stop wasting our cash on stuff like this.

Although it is hard not to admire the metaphorical significance of the government funding mass debation.

Heh

This almost works, but to go the whole way, you'd have to insist that the fact schoolkids who play regularly are fitter than those who don't just means that they must have already been fit when they started playing.

Hipsters Still Wrestling With Their Daddy Issues

So this is the dawn of the libertarian revolution then? Slightly provocative slogans on buses. Take that you suburban squares!

Seriously, I'm thinking these guys are going to have to take it to the next level.

Anyway, what's with an atheist bus? Does that mean when it gets to the journey's end it just sits there and rots? Or maybe it means it only goes ten miles per hour and ends up nowhere near its destination, but that's all the fault of the faster, more comfortable 'faith buses' which steal all the good passengers.

Still, let's give our perpetually teenage friends some credit. At least they've outed themselves. At least they admit to pushing atheism - actually, that should be Atheism - rather than claiming they're just secularists who simply want to move towards a more tolerant, progressive world where people will come together and EXTERMINATE THE IGNORANT SKY FAIRY WORSHIPPING NEANDERTHALS.

On the other hand though, when sane people think of the negative effects of religion on bus travel, they tend not to think of Christians, but these people can only ever attack the Religion of Peace in the context of a more general condemnation of religion. Well, whatever propagates your DNA, but could they at least stop hailing their own heroism?

Testing The Hypothesis

The Dawk speaks:
[Dawkins] is also a member of the Brights, a group who out themselves as atheists. But he is not too keen on the name. “The word Brights gets a lot of ridicule. A lot of Americans think it’s arrogant, that it’s saying non-religious people are cleverer than religious people. On average they probably are, but you’re not allowed to say that.” He grins.
A-huh.

Atheists: Still Bringing The Class

I think I may have solved the mystery of why the Dawkettes have had so little success pushing their agenda. Free Clue: it's not because they're being held down by evil theocrats.

NB: just to make it explicit, the lass in question is - at the least - agnostic, and possibly atheist (but never Atheist) herself.

Snivelling Liberal Weasel: 'Don't Call Me A Snivelling Liberal Weasel'

Hankies out everybody! Author Philip Pullman is just heartbroken at all those accusations of being anti-Christian. Actually, I think he has a point. He certainly has been unfairly criticised. There's this guy who claims Pullman wants to 'undermine the basis of Christian belief'. Not only that, he's even been accused of writing books about killing God.

This is a fairly fundamental difference between left and right. Folks on the right are enraged by liberals constantly citing things they didn't actually say, but liberals think they should have, while leftists think it's just outrageous that people on the right quote them accurately.

On second thoughts, I guess Pullman's right after all - once these Jesus Freaks start responding to unhinged liberal criticism, why, there's no telling what these nuts will do next.

That’ll Leave A Mark

America’s chief (only ?) sane Lib Kirsten Powers sums up exactly what’s so annoying about professional atheists. At least religious nuts claim God’s on their side – these people claim the right to behave like pigs just because.
