I Don't Think It's The 'Slavery' That's The Issue....

Nothing to see here, just the Church of England putting up a monument to a slaver...and you probably will guess why.
What the Cathedral describes as 'a bold new artwork' is a twelve-foot-tall bright red effigy of the ruler of the African kingdom of Benin, Oba Ovonramwen, who was deposed by a British expedition in 1897. There is no doubt about the celebratory intention of this work: its artist, Victor Ehikhamenor, describes it as 'reawakening Oba Ovonramwen and every other person that was violated during that oppressive attack on the Benin Kingdom.'
Yep, sometimes it's so blatant even The Cucktator has to acknowledge it.

Wait until someone tells this Victor guy about the oppressive attack on the Confederacy.

For now though, I note a complete lack of effigies of Jefferson Davies in Anglican Cathedrals.

I Thought We Were Hitler ?

Who says the ecoloons can't make sensible arguments ?

Never mind climate change, when will someone tackle the mystery of why no one takes the Church of England seriously any more ? Personally, my favourite bit was when the Bishop claimed he wasn't 'trying to imply that people who ignore climate change are child abusers', he was just using an analogy, sort of like if the Bishop tried to coerce a choirboy to have sex with him by threatening him with being eaten by ManBearPig. Or possibly not.

Of course, it's no wonder they're so frantic. The ecoloon's boat is sinking so fast they're even reduced to cobbling together rescue hypothesis after the fact. Note to libs: science means predicting stuff before it happens, not trying to think of an answer afterwards. It's the difference between predicting the footy results, and going down them after the final whistle and claiming that teams with an 'R' in their name are more likely to win.

Hence the desperation. This is classic liberalism: never mind the facts, respect our hysteria!

Liberal + Truth Serum = Firestorm

People fall into three groups: those who make it happen, those who watch it happen, and those who wonder what the hell happened.

As far as the fire-storm over the Archbishop of Canterbury's remarks on Sharia go, I definitely in Group III. That's not to say that I don't think his remarks were insane, just that they're just the same ol' insania. Nothing the Bish came out wasn't the logical - well, liberal anyway - extension of standard multicultural doctrines.

It's not even an Islam thing. At least as far back as the post-1981 riots era, multiculti sensitivity has been the thing. We've had a quarter century of PC Plod turning a blind eye to folks driving round with signs saying 'Road Tax Applied For In Jamaica' (and there's even a religious angle here, at least as far as it involves a certain Rasta meditation aid). And that's how the black community became the success story it is today.

Ditto, unusual though it is for a liberal to come straight out and denounce the concept of equality under law, it is the natural outgrowth of the obsession with 'diversity' in the justice system. After all, what else can all this talk of 'different viewpoints' mean, other than differing interpretations of the law depending on who gets to do the interpreting ?

Actually, that was the Archbishop's only real sin: stating liberal doctrine clearly. Liberals keep yammering about right-wing extremists, but it's not the right that has to constantly dissemble about what it really believes.

More to the point, right now, with the RoPers dialling down the insanity, 40% of them will still admit to an inquisitive Infidel stranger that they think Sharia should be imposed in Britain (real figure: who knows what ?) Add in the fact that the second most popular name for a newborn boy in Britain is Mohammed and yes, we're already on the road to Sharia.

Bashing The Bishop

Laban says all that need be said about the Al-Archbishops latest outrage. I just take it as further proof for of my theory that it's liberals, not conservatives, that are the insular side of the spectrum. The Dyfed Dhimmi just knows that the US should be the world's least - not most - generous nation, just like he knows that gays in Iran are as free as in the UK, but just in a different way.

After all, this guy has previous - Allah sums it up here.

One Priest Scandal The MSM Won't Touch

ATW passes on some more evidence of the long suspected tie-up between the Catholic Church and the IRA. Doubtless, some would point out that these were rogue priests, yet not even the otherwise excellent Popes JP II and B16 have managed to come out with anything like a full-throated condemnation of those loveable leprechauns.

The bottom line is that if you were a full-on, Dawkinsesque critic of religion, then the news that priests stepped out with murdering scum should be the mother lode, but Liberals aren't answering the phone. The Catholic Church is attacked because of its central role in western civilisation, rather than for any deep moral reasons. That's why they'll pass up the chance to take a shot at the Church if doing so would mean being on the same side as civilisation. It's the essentially nihilistic nature of the modern Left - they'll always take whatever angle is most harmful to the West.

Theocracy Warning!!!!!

Everyone panic! The Christianists are trying to lecture us again. When will these weird cultists stop trying to foist their warped values on us sane people ?

Oops. Turns out the Hippy was talking about Iraq, doubtless quoting the famous parable about the Good Samaritan who realised he had no right to interfere in other people’s business. Anyway, let’s check the scorecard here. Church talking about sexual mores: evil attempt to impose their values on people. Church talking about military strategy: valuable contribution from the nation’s conscience.

But that’s not the best of it. Not only does the Bible include previously overlooked hints on waging war, it also includes tips on education. Hey, we should ask him if there’s anything in there about setting or practical work.

Actually, now I think about it, the Church of England is the ultimate example of my theory that there is a positive correlation between how bad an institution is at its core mission, and how much extraneous nonsense it devotes itself to. Let’s talk about education: back in the day they taught the three Rs and anything less than 90% literacy was a scandal. Now, schools seem to spend half their time talking about taking drugs anally in the rainforest (I admit it’s a while since I’ve read the curriculum), and a third of the kids couldn’t read the side of a cornflake packet. Or take Mr Plod: he might not be able to catch the clap in Amsterdam, but he’s got a nifty line in outreach. And so on….

So it is with the Anglicans. Their success at promoting Christian values in the wider society speaks for itself, but even on purely parochial issues they’re pathetic. Consider that new legislation means C of E schools will be forced to teach the glories of rampant butt banging. An observer might think that the Hippy was rather better qualified to speak out on this issue rather than the intricacies of national defence but no, he’s been rather more circumspect here. Apparently, Jesus’ teachings coincide exactly with the agenda of the Guardian.

Nation Shall Speak Dhimmitude Unto Nation

Don’t be shocked, but the BBC is spinning for Islamothugs again. Ok, first up Cordoba is not a ‘former mosque’. It was a church that was converted to a mosque during the years of brutal Muslim occupation, then converted back as soon as the Spaniards liberated themselves. Against that background, the Muslim’s demand (or ‘plea’ for those who speak dhimmi) takes on a far more sinister cast, reminiscent as it is of the way Muslim invaders throughout history have made a point of seizing Christian churches and converting them to mosques. And no, there is no record of any of them becoming ‘ecumenical temple where believers from all faiths could worship.’ Ancient history ? Yet what does it say about Islamic ideology that these people not only try to invade the cathedral to carry out their own ceremonies, but actually claim victim hood over the fact security guards turf them out.

Needless to say, none of the historical background is included in the BBC’s report, and neither is the more overtly sinister language used in the initial demand. ‘Peace’ it turns out, means what it always means to Islamofascists: the surrender of the Infidel and his acceptance of dhimmitude.

OK, You Win, Libs (Part I)

The Libs want to redefine paedophilia – but don’t call them soft on perverts. Dyfed-Powys chief Terry Grange claims the law is a ‘grey area’. In so far as the law outlaws sex with under-16s, it’s hard to see how much simpler it could be, but I guess he’s using the phrase in the Liberal sense of ‘grey area’ i.e. ‘perfectly clear, but we wish it wasn’t’.

Still, it’s not totally idiotic. There really is a different pathology between those who seek sex with children, and those who seek to prey on teenagers. That’s not enough to justify buying into the Libs’ latest PC drivel except for one thing. If we’re not allowed to call those who prey on adolescent boys ‘paedophiles’, then that robs the Left of their main charge against the then-Cardinal Ratzenburger. After all, the ‘paedo Priests’ almost exclusively targeted teenage boys, so I guess the Liberal’s charge must be that the Catholic Church was not zealous enough in rooting out gay priests, right ?

Of course, all this leads on to a further speculation. If a network of predatory homosexuals operating in the Catholic Church for decades suggests the Church is corrupt, what does it say for gay culture ? Motes and beams, fatty!
