On a point of information, the "two-mile detour" is actually about a fifth of a mile longer than the direct route. So Ms Malm is either trigonometrically challenged or being a bit naughty in the interests of sexing up her dossier. I could believe either.
You can see why a busy road like that needs to be kept clear of the plebs. How are emergency, sorry council vehicles supposed to move along a congested nightmare like that?
