The 'Secret Policeman' Was Not Available For Comment

Having spent twenty years leading the charge against anyone on the right who fails to grovel sufficiently to PC, the BBC has now decided accurately quoting stuff people say is sleazy and underhand.

Let's check the scorecard again: when knuckle-draggers are secretly filmed late at night by a fraudster impersonating a police officer, that raises important questions about the culture in the police, but when a senior member of the BBC's management calls for the BBC to deliberately bias its output in a leftist direction, it's underhand for anyone to cite that as evidence of leftist bias.

Still, on the plus side, in so far as this article, like any by a BBC staffer, would have had to be checked and approved by multiple layers of management - none of whom apparently found anything unusual in Stephenson's comments - we may finally, years after Macpherson, have found an actual case of institutional prejudice.

Of course, that in turn leads to the real crunch question: are you still a crazed, tin-foil hat wearing loon if you claim the BBC is biased? Or does it mean that the people the BBC has smeared for years have been totally vindicated?

There's a wider issue here too. If politics is your bag then, yes, bias in the BBC's factual output should be your main concern, but from the perspective of culture war, their overtly fictional output is where it's at. It's that word again: metacontext, the wider cultural assumptions which set the terms of political debate.

Take taxes: no matter how well the right makes the intellectual case for lower taxes, they're going to be up against it just as long as they're working in the context of a society that sees keeping your own money as greedy and, as a corollary, big government as the source of all social progress. Ditto, law enforcement. So far as BBC drama is full of bent coppers, crusading lawyers and super-articulate criminals, who are actually victims of society, maaaaaan, then the right is facing an uphill struggle.

But even that's not the biggest knock on the BBC's biased drama output. The effects on the cultural weather is one thing, but the even-worse problem is that it leads to so much just plain awful TV.

It's not just the absurdly anachronistic, mood killing, political commentary in shows like 'Robin Hood' or 'Doctor Who', or the fact that as soon as a character quotes scripture you know he'll be the killer. Nope, it's that these people have absolutely nothing to say. Hey, any organisation that considers pushing liberalism in the arts to be edgy and innovative is clearly running on empty.

This isn't just a matter of their drearily predictable liberalism. Joss Wheddon (Buffy/Angel/Firefly) is a far-out moonbat, but his best work has mass appeal precisely because it rises above the specifics of politics and hits on broader themes. Meanwhile, the BBC is full of people penning paeans to their own bravery in producing the seven hundredth show featuring corrupt businessmen and heroic ecoloon activists. Compare and contrast the BBC's saccharine sweet love letter to legal fascism 'Judge John Deedes' with Wheddon's creation 'Wolfram & Hart'. To the point: it comes to something when you get a better critical analysis of the inherent contradictions in the left's pact with lawyers from a show about a vampire than from a supposedly serious BBC drama.

That's what wrong with the BBC. Not just the bias, or the waste of public money, serious though both these issues are. The biggest problem is that the end product is so lifeless and predictable. I can't do better than finish off with a quote from John Nolte on a genuinely innovative piece of work:
After forty years of liberal rule in Hollywood it is nihilism that’s old-fashioned. It is moral relativism that is tired. It is political correctness, the always-noble people of color, the always-evil white guy, and the metrosexual that is cliched. A film with a clear divide between good and evil is something new. A film that celebrates patriotism, heroism, sacrifice, freedom, and honor is something revolutionary. In 1955 300 would be old-fashioned. In 2007 it makes a counter-culture statement as strong as Easy Rider in its day.

Actually, The West Is Superior

Of course, when it comes to liberals defending depravity, one cause fires them up more than any other. Listening to liberals try to work their moral equivalences mojo on this is going to be special!
In the Islamic Republic it is illegal to execute a young woman, regardless of her crime, if she is a virgin, he explained. Therefore a "wedding" ceremony is conducted the night before the execution: The young girl is forced to have sexual intercourse with a prison guard - essentially raped by her "husband."
Of course, many working women in Britain have trouble finding affordable child care so who are we to condemn?

This is why I keep saying liberal multiculturalism is a fraud. Liberal tolerance for other cultures is predicated on the idea that, say, Islamofascist lunatics are just like Guardian readers but with stupid beards and bad personal hygiene... no, wait, that's exactly like Guardian readers.

Iran isn't just like Islington, but with a wacky dress code. Islam is a complete ideology that dictates every aspect of life to its adherents. In so far as words have meaning, it is perfectly valid to discuss Islamic ideology. But no: libs are busily sticking their fingers in their ears and singing 'Imagine' loudly.

The Truth Is... They're Kooks

Libs are enraged that Her Majesty invited all the members of the London Assembly to her party, not just the ones they approve of. Apparently, there's no excuse for public figures being seen to endorse extremists - they should meet with sensible, middle of the road moderates like this guy.

Hmmmmm... what definition of 'extreme' are we using here? Either 'extremism' is another of those words Cameron doesn't really understand (much like 'conservatism') or liberals have, as it were 'moved on' from 'reclaim the night' to 'she was asking for it'.

Of course, the BNP have been accused of The Racism! unlike St Gary, who lead an all black gang that targeted exclusively white women.

I think it's worth emphasising that last bit here, since the MSM won't tell you that. The fact police search disproportionately more young, black men compared to the population at large is proof of racism, but a 100% split between victim & victimiser.... that's just some wacky coincidenks.

Needless to say, St Gary has never been pressed on the racism. As for the rapes... Let's just say that I generally find that remorseful people express actual, y'know, remorse, rather than, say, blaming everyone else and issuing prissy demands that no one be allowed to mention their true nature as a sicko pervert.

Still, let's take a moment here to imagine the likely reaction on the left to a Melanie Philips column which claimed single parent families made boys grow up to be gang rapists.

Exactly.

Funnily enough though, as this latest incident testifies, being a racist thug and sexual predator has proved to be no bar to St Gary climbing aboard the Good Ship Truther. Hey, not to give aid and comfort to the enemy, but as a rule, I find that if you're trying to pass off your loony movement as a grass roots effort by a *representative* group of July 7 survivors, you probably want to go light on the whole 'paling around with perverted bigots' thing.

Hollywood: Smart!

Who knew Marxists would have no respect for private property?

At Least We Can Rule Out Goblins, Elves And Aliens

Master MONA Monitor Lurker points out the interesting case of the Molesters of No Appearance.

Libs Discover Constitution, Hilarity Ensues

Just in case General Dannatt ever tires of being a liberal hate figure, I have the perfect way for him to rehabilitate himself.

Of course, libs will point out that Sir Jacko was retired when he risked becoming a chattering class hero by calling Yanks STOOPID. After all, the constitution prohibits serving soldiers criticising Her Majesty's Government, right? PC Plod can hammer home Labour talking points with all the subtly of a comedian at a rugby club dinner, but soldiers are different. Well, except for this guy, obviously.

Hmmmm.... let's review the scorecard here. Talking about logistical short-comings on the battlefield is a slippery slope that leads to a military junta, but giving a public backrub to a bunch of Islamofascist thugs..... What could be wrong with that?

(On the plus side though, this kind of savvy public dhimmitude Islamic outreach would explain why 2005 was so peaceful on the home front.)

UPDATE:

Down in the comments, TDK reminds us that Dannett himself is horribly compromised. All of which rams home the point that Dannatt is no more or less than the natural end product of a politicised Army. Indeed, one of the defining characteristics of the Nu Labour era has been the corruption of the professions: doctors release the medical records of anyone foolish enough to speak out against the government, police officers jabber endlessly about the lowest crime rate in history (while wearing body armour and carrying cs gas) and flag officers are too busy ordering up shiny new toys to actually win the war.

A Further Thought About The Wicked Websters

Suddenly, Prison Works: Hey, say what you like about these two tards, but in so far as their offence involved sitting down and typing stuff, they surely qualify as the type of 'non-violent offenders' liberals keep insisting shouldn't be sent to jail. But no: sexual predators get community orders, but these guys are just too dangerous.

Hmmmmm.... do you ever get the feeling the left's supposed objections to prison are purely tactical? They can't admit that they think dangerous predators - especially those from 'close-knit communities' - are just differently-moralled members of the ethically-diverse community, so instead we get these absurd claims that locking up predators doesn't make people safer and, anyway, community service is tougher than prison.

Heh

A Yank reads a report from the Cardiff Test Match disgrace.

Outrage D'Jour: No Dhimmitude Here Edition!

So, speech that has the potential to cause 'grave social harm' - that must be some speech - rates nearly five years in the slammer, except in the case of people who really do have a record of violence.

Unicorn Arrested!

Not really - it's the even-rarer creature, the sexual predator released to strike again.

At least, I assume they're rare, judging by the way the hipsters whine and complain when anybody raises this issue. See, now I'm wondering - are we still lager-swilling idiots, sucking our brains out with daytime TV, or is the fact that this kind of thing keeps happening exactly as we predicted proof that it might just be our eye-rolling pals who are the idiots?

This isn't passive smoking or mobile phone towers. A dangerous predator was set free and struck again almost immediately. Conclusion: releasing predators is a bad idea.

At this point you're probably wondering just what kind of idiot judge could set a known predator free. Well, keep wondering:
The judge, who cannot be named for legal reasons....
Hey, I think the idea of giving convicted criminals anonymity is an legal and moral outrage, but judges? These people hold public office but we're not to know how they choose to perform their duties? Say what?

Like I keep saying, judicial independence means independence from political influence, it doesn't mean independence from the wider culture. Judges are meant to reflect the common morality, not just the warped morality of our fashionably disengaged hipster class. Still, in so far as they feel the need to hide behind anonymity, at least they can't deny knowing where the public really stands on this issue.

Everyone Has Aides!

I'll admit this is great for connoisseurs of 'ferrets in sacks' but the real punchline is this:
To his critics Mr Phillips was doing New Labour's bidding. To his friends he was forming the debate. However, many in the ethnic minority communities were alarmed, arguing that it was his job to defend minorities, not give succour to attacks on them.
Actually, we knew that anyway, but it's good to see them admit it in public.

Rudy Was Right!

Seems to me that in it's increasingly absurd attempts to alibi our thieving MPs, the BBC has inadvertently let the cat out of the bag.

Yep, people are more likely to commit crimes in environments where crime appears to be tolerated. Say, why does that sound familiar?

Still, in so far as the BBC's argument appears to be that fine, upstanding MPs were driven to larceny by life inside an incestuous, bubble world that made them lose touch with reality in the rest of Britain, all I can say is this: takes one to know one.

More Supporting-Of-The-Troopyness

If a spate of robberies mean liberals want to ban manikins in military uniform, banning the burkha should be a cinch, right? After all, I'm pretty sure the bank robberies weren't committed by 2 Para, whereas the Islamic connection to violence is a little more, ahhh, direct.

Actually, the real question is raised by this:
But an officer from Bolton Council has written to Mr Shahabi and threatened him with a fine if he does not move the doll.
Say what? I admit I haven't kept up with our ever-evolving legal system, but absent the passage of the Military Manikins Act of 2009, I'm wondering what statute the council are intending to use to enforce this fine. Well, that and wondering what exactly is the moral difference between council officials citing bogus laws to shakedown anyone who doesn't share their pathological hatred of real public servants, and private sector protection rackets.

Seems to me that if people are freaking out over a dummy, they're the ones with a problem - although, come to think of it, this is the perfect example of the liberal thought process: there's a spate of robberies, so the council wants to fine a shopkeeper. Of course!

Maybe he should claim society made him put the dummy up? Either that, or replace it with a dummy in a gimp suit, in which case the council would no doubt be vigorously harassing the complainants.

UPDATE:

Link fixed

Public Service Announcement

If you're disgusted by the Daily Mail's coverage of the Gary McKinnon case, feel free to hack into their computer system, cause hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of damage and leave a message saying how you think Paul Dacre should be raped to death by rabid monkeys. If anyone objects, just say you're dyslexic and you were investigating the Kennedy assassination - apparently, that covers everything.

Reliable Witness!

Hey, let's not be prejudiced here. Just 'cause a guy thinks mass murder is a ducky way way to spend an afternoon doesn't mean he'd stoop to lying, right?

Of course, not every case of torture excites the left...

No, We Don't Want To Lose You, But We Think You Should Go (To Smackhead Comp)

This is what baffles me about cases like this: surely even some liberals see how bizarre this sort of thing is.

Still, I have to admit though, I am intrigued by the idea that you can draw a line round a place - a 'border', to coin a phrase - with certain rights only available to those inside that border. It sounds crazy, but it could work!

Of course, the other mystery is why exactly it matters. Surely all this 'school choice' wasn't a just a slippery liberal scam? Then again, the educrats has spent years claiming they want families to get involved with their children's education. Apparently, they mean 'involved' in the same way pigs are involved in ham sandwiches.

Liberals have suddenly turned into Lord Kitchener, as in 'Your Country Needs You To Send Your Children To An Awful School'. Still, at least Word War I generals had an end point in mind. They might have been prepared to sacrifice thousands, but they wanted to win the war and bring the slaughter to an end. The educrats are writing off the life chances of thousands of children every year and we're supposed to accept that's just the way it is. Some schools are good, some are terrible. Luck of the draw, init?

Liberals are convinced that the whole of the private sector is one enormous conspiracy, with everyone meeting on the golf course to plan how to rob the public. Hence the Competition Commission and a gazillion other quangos. Meanwhile, when it comes to education, education, education, they openly operate a cartel expressly designed to ensure that no school, no matter how hopeless, can fail to get its latest draft of victims. Can we jail them yet?

New Liberal Argument: And You're One Too!

Nazis, Nazis, Everywhere! Our PC PCs have marked the anniversary of the day Islamofascist lunatics klilled 52 people to warn us that the real threat is from right wing extremists.

Hey, isn't it always?

Still, one thing sets me thinking:
Sources have told the Guardian that while they believe the neo-Nazi terrorist threat has grown, they have no specific intelligence of an attack.
Say, didn't that used to be known as profiling?

Sure it did, and hipsters were enraged! at the idea that just becuase someone has some wacky ideas, they could be labelled a terrorist. I guess that's gone the way of 'no more boom & bust'.

Oops, guess we can't say that:
Sawyer revealed that the Met commissioner, Sir Paul Stephenson, had asked the counter-terrorism command, SO15, to examine what the economic downturn would mean for far-right violence.
'Economic downturn'? That's OK, but surely he can work global warming in there somewhere?

Still, at least we've got them on record. Yes, Virginia, the police are deploying highly-skilled anti-terrorist officers to chase down kooks playing with fire instead of actual terrorists. Something to bear in mind when the jihadists strike again and we get a chorus of 'my resources fell down the stairs, guv'.

Liberal Intelligence: All The Evidence For It Must Be Classified

For those of you keeping score at home, expecting A-Level students to know words and stuff is a sign that you're a degenerate elitist who wants to ride down the masses with your polo horse, but dealing with chemical spills, car crashes and burning buildings is just like working at a car wash, but with higher-pressure hoses.

Hmmmmm..... is anyone keeping track of just how many moron professions there are out there? It goes without saying that libs think Sandhurst is just a finishing school for the thick but rich. Ditto, the Five-oh. Businessmen? Fast-talking barrow boys the lot of them.... Apparently, whole swathes of the country aren't nearly as smart as the people who fall for the cunning Cadbury's Gambit.

Then again, if Sonia Sotomayor's point is so defensible, why do liberals have to lie about it?
It is, however, worth making two points about Sotomayor and the Ricci case. First, although some Republican senators and conservative pundits are likely to portray it this way, it would be silly to argue that reversal by the supreme court means that Sotomayor was legally "wrong". The case presented a genuinely difficult issue, and as reflected by the fact that it was supported by four supreme court justices, New Haven's arguments were perfectly plausible
I believe the legal term for that is 'garabage'. Here's reformed lawyer, and actual smart person, Ann Coulter:
This week, the Supreme Court ruled 5-4 for the white and Hispanic firefighters, overturning Sotomayor's endorsement of racial quotas.

But all nine justices rejected Sotomayor's holding that different test results alone give the government a green light to engage in race discrimination. Even Justice Ginsburg's opinion for the dissent clearly stated that "an employer could not cast aside a selection method based on a statistical disparity alone."

Indeed, the dissenters argued that the case should be returned to the lower courts to look for some hidden racial bias in the test. For Sotomayor, the results alone proved racial bias.
In other words, every judge distanced themselves from Sotomayor's goofy reasoning. It was a 9-0 wipeout for the wackadoodle 'any chance of a lawsuit' test.

Hey, if libs are so smart, how come their arguments fall apart as soon as they're forced to state them honestly?

World War II: Like, Totally Bogus

I'm guessing da yoof can't take all the blame for their problems with World War II history:
There were some pretty nasty things that went on in that war...
Liberals are such wusses.

It's A Good Job The Dave Has Rooted Out All The Extremists

Another entry in the bulging 'I'll take liberal claims to oppose extremism seriously once they start opposing actual extremists' file. Apparently, talking about stuff you actually experienced in the Army is unacceptable, but talking about how proud you are of your racist thug sons is perfectly understandable.

Long Live The Revolution!

At least in America some folks are prepared to shoot at one of the modern world's most sacred cows.

Let's try a thought experiment here: suppose a bank were encouraging youngsters to borrow tens of thousands of pounds to invest in a scheme that supposedly offered them high returns three years down the line. That, right there, would be enough to get even the living dead at the Financial Services Authority (aka Found Sleeping Again) on the war path.

But now imagine that the supposed returns were inflated by a small minority of investors who got very high returns, far out of range of what the median investor would expect. That would have the FSA calling in air strikes, even before it was pointed out that 90 % of the time you could tell in advance who would - and who wouldn't - make the money, yet our hypothetical bank's marketing literature delibratly obscured this point.

By that point, only public execution could suffice, yet all our bank would be doing is behaving like the average university. The supposed premiums quoted for a university education are garbage. Take away graduates who do go on to make great money, but only becuase of the very specific circumstances of their professions, like docters and lawyers, since they are outliers by definition, and can't tell us anything about the 'average graduate'. Ditto, those who by temprement and skills would be guaranteed to succeed in almost any circumstances, like physics geeks. Equally, factor out of the 'non-graduate' population those who can't, or won't, take any kind of employment. Correct for the fact that degree-educated employees used to be lot scarcer than they are today. Add up the interest on tens of thousands of pounds of debt and the money and experience lost through three years spent in Wacademia and what are you left with? Good evidence that the average degree course is the most overrated product in Britain today.

Feline Makes A Break For It

The collapse of the political class must be more serious than I thought. Polly Toynbee (!) is so freaked she's let the cat out of the bag. In amongst explaining why government is responsible for all the good stuff in society, but that doesn't mean we can blame it for the bad stuff, we get this:
Most depressing for councils, satisfaction mostly depends on something they cannot change – the population: happiest places have most graduates, fewest children, least ethnic diversity, least population churn, most private housing. Badly run areas (like Surrey) that are posh places will always score higher satisfaction than good councils (like Blackburn) with four-star ratings and a miserable populace. Where is the political justice in that?
But... but... what about the cultural enrichment?

Best Movie Evah?

Considering recent events, how long before this movie is on the A-Level history syllabus?

But Who Is This 'Hitler' Guy Anyway?

It burns me to have to miss a good pile on, but I've got a lot of sympathy with da kidz here - and not only because I still can't decide if 'despotic tyranny' is a redundancy or if 'non-despotic tyranny' is the perfect description for modern liberalism.

Personally, I've always believed that if only Hitler had been involved in the transatlantic slave trade, schools would never need to teach anything else. Then again, it's no wonder the yoof are confused about Hitlerism. After all, they've spent their entire education listening to various NUT-ters describe everyone right of Stalin as being 'just like Hitler'. Advocates of Christianity, free trade, school vouchers... crypto-Nazis the lot of them (especially the school vouchers crowd).

More seriously, I don't necessarily buy the idea that the yoof should be expected to know stuff from outside the curriculum. Of course, it's great when they do, but there will always be a significant demographic out there whose sole intellectual input is from the school. These aren't kids from households where they discuss the nature of government over dinner. Ditto, the idea of reading around the subject doesn't necessarily come naturally to them. I was one of those kids - the idea of checking a few scholary texts out of the library would have seemed as wacky and pretentious as turning up at school with an ivory-handled cane and a top hat.

Of course, if the schools were telling the yoof they had to read around the subject, and training them how to do that, then that might be different, but that brings us to the real issue. Not only do schools not encourage reading around, it can actually do more harm than good. For at least twenty years exams haven't been about knowing the key facts about a subject, they've been about guessing what particular facts the examiners think are key enough to include on the mark scheme.

If there's something sad about the kids desire to slavishly learn what's on the syllabus then belch it out on the paper, then it mainly arises because they know from experience that modern examiners are just like nightclub bouncers, blindly following the rule that if your points not on the mark scheme, it's not coming in. You might think that Germany was only able to prolong the war until 1945 precisely becuase Albert Speer allowed the armaments industry a genuine degree of freedom, but if the examiners didn't think of that, it don't count. Faced with that, who wouldn't program themselves to learn the talking points and practice hammering them back at the examiners?

You May Not Be Interested In Culture War, But Culture War Is Interested In You

As I understand it, the Telegraph's investigation into allegations of massive fraud in Parliament (all subsequently proven) was a dangerous distraction from the vital work of Parliament, but electing a slippery weasel to Speaker is the best gag evah!

And thus was shattered the myth that most leftists are just bitter losers.

Still, it could have been worse. I understand some Labour MPs wanted Cherie Blair to raise the undead corpse of Robert Maxwell. Apparently, they gave up the idea after they decided Captain Bob was just too anal about keeping the books straight - plus the Lib Dems wouldn't vote for a Jew.

All of which does lead to an important point. Here we have a perfect demonstration of why one of the main excuses for Cameronism doesn't work. The whole Nu Tory thing is that, sure, they can see how all this endless triangulation and purging of any actual conservatives is kind of annoying, but once we get a conservative government elected, why, it'll all be worth while.

Well, no. What the election of Squeaker Bercow proves is that the left won't just fold their tents and retire to Spain just as soon as the Tories get a majority. On the contrary, this is exactly the kind of scorched earth strategy the left will employ to ensure any Tory policy faces the death of a thousand cuts. The Cameroonatics might find all this talk of culture war a drag, but any Tory government serious about achieveing much of anything will have to face the need to clear out the instititons sooner or later. Can anyone seriously imagine these silver spoon freaks waging this kind of trench warfare?

Zimbabwe South: Authentic!

You could run a whole blog just dealing with cases of libtards breathlessly reporting the obvious. Just what definition of 'shock' are we using here?

Of course, the real question is what percentage would it have to rise to before liberals will stop jabbering about the great moral leadership of Nellie Mandela?

Snapshot Of Something

This case certainly tells us something about modern Britain, but I'm not sure what.

On the one hand, it's great that even judges are having to acknowledge the reality of anti-white racism, but I'm not sure at the implication that using insensitive language... why, that's just asking to be poisoned.

I guess the real heroes in all of this are the local education authority who - abscent cleaning fluid cocktails - are perfectly happy to have a racist nutcase running a class room. Watch out for those BNP thugs!

Rights Round Up

Apparently, 'free speech' now requires that you post your cv on-line.

See, that's the problem with a political monoculture: there's no one around to tell liberals that their arguments don't make a lick of sense. Try this:
The public was entitled to know how police officers behaved and the newspaper's readers were entitled to come to their own conclusions about whether it was desirable for officers to communicate such matters publicly.
So the public is enitled to find out how police officers behave but it's not desirable for police officers to tell them. A-huh!

On the other hand, some people deserve their privacy.
Civil rights group Liberty is backing the relatives of two convicted killers who claim their human rights have been breached - after police used the criminals' faces in a poster campaign.

The number of shootings in Greater Manchester dropped by 92 per cent following the arrest of gangsters Colin Joyce and Lee Amos, so they were featured in a billboard which thanked the public for coming forward with evidence against them.

But members of the two men's families are now seeking compensation from the police, claiming they weren't warned about the posters in advance, or given a chance to object.
Hmmmm.... I guess we'll never know why people call Liberty a bunch of leftist kooks.

Needless to say, the moral absurdity of the case has no impact on its likelehood of success. No, siree, Jack! It turns out that the police will be required to show they considered the impact on the rest of these dysfunctional clans of psychopaths beforehand or else (although, in their defence, neither killer has been known to express 'strong opinions').

Still, we must not let the specific absurdity blind us to the more general one:
The relatives say they've suffered increased hostility as a result of the posters which graphically show how old Joyce and Amos would look by the time they were released from jail.
Good. The mark of a civilised society is that being a scumbag does bring consequences. True, it may be impossible to prove beyind reasonable doubt that the relatives are criminals themselves (so far) but then again, no one's talking about jailing or fining them. Nope, we're talking mild social stigma, or, as I like to think of it, treating low-life vermin like the sub-human filth that they are. When exactly did we decide that gangsta baby mammas had the fundemental human right to be treated as worthwhile members of the public?

This is another reason why the hipster's faux libertarianism doesn't work. These people claim to hate Big Government, but they absolutely despise the idea of communities regulating themselves through tactics such as shaming, social ostracism and the like. It's all too suggestive of squaresville morality for these rebel tigers. The trouble is abscent that moral framework all you're left with is government, and that can never be enough - which probably explains why they're so desperate to stop anyone talking about how their idiot ideas work in practice.

Extremism

Hey, we keep hearing from the MSM how Britain is descending into the dark night of fascism, so how come the heavily-armed lunatics always turn out to be guys like this?

Enormous Huge Shocka!

Don't be shocked, but it turns out that when teachers are free to teach what they want, what they want is to not teach at all. Who'd have thunk it? Well, apart from anyone who'd been taught in the 1980s anyway.

Like I keep saying, the Golden Age of pre-National Curriculum education was a bust. It wasn't Dead Poets Society, it was Night of the Living Dead.

It's Hard In Da Hood

Guess the race-hustlers are right, after all! It's hard for brutha to get a break in the United KKKingdom. Guy tries to pull himself up from the streets and The Man hits him with this.

I take it all back. Lenny Henry is clearly the Rosa Parks of Britain. How fortunate that I've just got my nano-violin back from its tune-up.

Still, that don't look like no 'hood to me. Could it be we're dealing another two-faced liberal rat weasel? Yes, indeed, but now it's worse than ever. At least when libs are jetting in to tell us all to holiday in Blackpool, no one actually gets shot. Meanwhile, it turns out that one of the country's most prominent racial arsonists has managed to acquire a shedload of cash - then used to it to head off way the hell away from any enrichment-related activities. This must be what they mean about keeping it real.

Monsters of No Apperance

I've said it before and I'll doubtless say it again, but reading the British press these days is like reading Pravda in the Cold War. Just as you had to be able to read between the lines to work out just who was up and who was down in the Kremlin, so British newspapers may as well start printing stories like this in double-spaced format so readers can fill in the gaps themselves.

Seems Like A Nice Boy

Famous non-terrorist Moazzam Begg has found a new outlet for his artistic leanings. It's a video game in which a teddy bear has to rescue all his chums from an evil wizard who's trying to take over Toyland. No, wait... this is it.

I'm telling you, I'm just shocked - shocked - to find Moazzam Begg involved in producing Islamofascist propaganda. Doubtless, the game will doubtless flop, given that the vast majority of Muslims are peace-loving, right? Of course, that does lead onto the next question: what are the odds? For a bunch of racist buffoons who just want to victimise peace-loving Muslims, it's amazing how every time the completely innocent victim picked up at random turns out to exactly fit the profile of a hardcore terrorist.

Right about now, I'm thinking it's going to be simpler to keep track of all those liberal baby seals who haven't turned out to be utter scumbags. Still, let's check the scores on the doors: the BBC won't interview whole swathes of right-wing commentators because of The Extremism but a man who produces Islamofascist murder fantasies strikes them as an entirely credible witness. Come to think of it, if it's true he has a financial stake in the game, what with all the appearance fees and free publicity he had over the years, you can make a case that our licence fees may have indirectly helped fund terrorism.

Again.

Felons Need A Voice Too!

Possibly sensing that day after day of posting variations on the theme of 'Ten thousand and sixty-SEVEN pounds, actually' wasn't really helping the MPs expenses scandal go away any faster, the Reverend Dale has decided on a new line of attack.

Yep, seeing a felon get a hard time might discourage women from standing for Parliament. Or possibly felons.

Hmmmm... I guess robbery is no excuse for rudeness. Still, I can't help thinking that back in the day, the Nu Tories thought colourful rhetoric was just part of the fun.

They Must Have Been Mythtaken

Another despatch from the parallel universe of the BBC, and it's a lu-lu.

Like Laban says, what definition of normality are we talking about here? Plus if the town is a quarter Muslim, it's isn't 'greatly divided'. I'm guessing most Infidels are pretty clear about where they stand on the whole slavery question - and we'll have to keep guessing since the BBC never gets round to interviewing any of them.

So, for those of you keeping score at home, right now the BBC refuses to cover the BNP because of The Extremism! but it also runs stories giving both sides of the slavery debate a fair crack of the whip. If a Tory MP suggested beating lazy wives there wouldn't be enough Novocaine suppositories in the galaxy to calm the Beeboids down.

But the real prize is who they choose to supply the closing quotes:
Musharrat Zia is the director of Practical Solutions, an organisation which works to challenge stereotypes and negative myths about different cultures.
Hellooooo! I think the whole 'case proved beyond reasonable doubt' pretty much suggest that it isn't a myth after all. Ditto, if the whole 'to enslave or not enslave' debate has split the exploding communidee, it's not a stereotype either - large numbers of them really do support slavery (y'know kind of like those right-wing loons always said they did).

This is the essence of BBC bias. It's not just about the incidental stuff like negative labelling of conservatives, unbalanced debates or the like. It's about a deep, ingrained belief that reality is whatever they say it is. This case has given the world a rare chance to look under the veil and confront the true nature of Islam, and the BBC's response is to demand 'who are you going to believe? Me or your lying eyes'?

They Expected The Spanish Inquisition?

NNW points out that the critics of religiously-motivated child abuse only ever seem to get motivated about one particular religion. True enough, but there's an even bigger humbuggery about it all here.

Consider this: the hipsters are enraged! that the Catholic Church tried to rehabilitate paedophile priests instead of handing them over for punishment.

Say what?

Wasn't the whole 'punishing paedophiles' thing supposed to be the litmus test that separates us knuckle-dragging socio cons from our sofistikeyted betters? Weren't us proles supposed to be the crazed lynch mob demanding punishment, while our natural ruling class rolled their eyes and explained patronisingly that 'good' and 'evil' were social constructs?

Bottom line: strip out the metaphysical aspects and the Vatican's 'talk it over' policy sounds mightily like our elite's preferred Therapy Nation strategy. So just what is it that they actually object to?

The Highly-Skilled Migrants What We Need

Say, how come we need so many immigrants if we're encouraging British graduates to work abroad?

Hey, Liberals: This Is What A Theocracy Looks Like

Who'd have thunk it? After approximately 800,000 movies, books, plays and operas about paedo-priests, the left has decided we're all being too cruel to Catholics.

But wait... what's else do I find at Ross's place? Why, yes, it's a reference to one paedo-priest scandal the left will never make a movie about. Actually, I'm pretty sure this is just variant six on the same theme but, like I say, there's a virtual news blackout on all this.

This is the anti-matter version of victimhood poker. Call it villain poker. Normally, the left loves to bag the Catholic Church. Hell, an alien watching TV would conclude that The Faith was a nonce's organisation infiltrated by religious kooks (in between all those shows in which flawed-but-loveable sexual predators are harassed by crazed Jesus freaks). Still and all, no matter how evil Catholics are, that doesn't justify saying anything nice about Ulster Unionists.

The MSM has spent years depicting Ulster Unionists - or Ulster Protestants in their absurd formulation - as bowler-hated, taig hating illiterates. Yet we keep coming across cases proving that, yes, the Republic was an utterly corrupt theocracy after all. What the priests did to those alter boys is what the Republic wants to do to Ulster. No bigotry required - the Unionists are motivated by a perfectly respectable disgust at a pre-Reformation basket case state beyond the imaginings of Hollywood's most crazed Palin-haters.

Steyn D'Jour

On why conservatives should treat with contempt liberal charges of 'extremism':
The aim of a large swath of the Left is not to win the debate but to get it canceled before it starts. You can do that in any number of ways – busting up campus appearances by conservatives, "hate speech" prohibitions, activist judges' more imaginative court decisions, or merely, as the Times does, by declaring your side of every issue to be the "moderate" and "nonideological" position – even when, in many cases, the "extreme" position is supported by a majority of voters.

"Brazilian"

Yep, must have been driven too it by all that beach volleyball.

Don't be shocked but you can't find that story here. You have to search for the vic's name to find the story of a sadistic homicide filed unlinked under....London?

Yes, indeed. A trendy tat emporium going up in flames is the Biggest Story Evah! but this story goes in with the talking dogs and miracle babies.

Meanwhile, a vote of thanks too to all our hipster friends who can't refer to St Jean the Martyr without reminding us he too was from down there as though the concept of a Brazilian terrorist was self-evidently absurd.

'Respectable Conservatism' Goes Down In Flames

Regular readers will know that I don't have any respect for those folks who keep claiming that conservatives should crave the good opinion of liberal thugs. I think it's a fools errand, and NNW demonstrates exactly why.

Hey, libs, there's your 'bread not bombs' right there. But no: even carrying food into a starving city is just a cunning ploy by the Anglosphere to hide its inherent evil. Heads we're evil, tails we toss again.

Seriously, why even bother trying to reach out to these loons? There's no middle ground we can reach with people who call everyone who supports school vouchers a Nazi, even as they borrow talking points from actual, real Nazis.

Liberalism: Where Even The Intellectuals Are Morons

Yep, it's a real mystery why the right doesn't respect our self-appointed intellectual class.
IF YOU liked George W. Bush, it wasn't because of his brain
Say, would that be Yale grad, Harvard MBA, ex-fighter pilot George W Bush? 'Cause I'm thinking that the whole 'facts' thing used to be kind of important in science.

Then again, you'd think intellectuals would be familiar with the fallacy of begging the question:
The Bush administration's extensively documented attacks on science (discussed in my book The Republican War on Science, among other places), and his exaltation of Jesus as his "favourite philosopher", further cemented the idea that here was not a mind to be respected.
Hey, did I sleep through the bit where we decided that liberals incessantly claiming something makes it true? Creationism is 'extensively documented' too. But it gets better:
Add to that the malapropisms, the apparent uneasiness with any kind of verbal improvisation, and the scripted debating, and one could easily conclude the US was being governed by the consummate anti-intellectual.
Well, at least that's over with!

I'd love to ask Freud what he made of this strange desire amongst liberals to pay fulsome tribute to the genius of Captain 57 even in the teeth of all the evidence? Then again, I wouldn't understand him anyway - I don't speak Austrian.

But don't go thinking that this guy is merely ignorant of current affairs. He's ignorant of history too. That's why we get this:
As expertise grew in stature in an increasingly science-dominated world, smarts came to be resented - at least in the eyes of the burgeoning modern conservative movement: its adherents saw intellectuals putting themselves above everybody else, speaking with dripping disdain and walling themselves off in ivory towers where their liberal politics made them even more suspect. This is very much what the Reagan revolution was all about, and George W. Bush was its heir.
Considering that the 1980s was the decade when the American economy boomed and the USSR went bang, just think what could have happened if Reagan hadn't been such a moron?

On the other hand, maybe the Reagan boom came about precisely because Ronaldus Magnus was up to speed on the latest thinking in economics, even while his supposed betters were still firmly mired in the intellectual equivalent of British Leyland....

Hmmm, where are these 'smarts' parked anyway? And isn't there something ridiculous about a guy whining about anti-intellectualism even while he calls a fighter pilot stoopid! I guess flying a fighter must be easy, or they'd teach it at university, right?

That's point number one right there. All this talk about how supa smart these people are is strictly blathersgate. "Smart' maps exactly to 'leftist'. But there's more to it than that:
John McCain and Sarah Palin certainly did try out the rhetoric of anti-intellectualism on Obama. Palin mocked the fact that he'd made much of his personal wealth through the sale of books and sneered at research on fruit flies and grizzly bears in a bid to make science sound like a self-indulgent pursuit that spends money but doesn't produce anything useful.
Actually, this is one for the intellectuals (real ones): is it ironic, or just stupid, that people who jabber endlessly about their 'smarts' come up with such moronic arguments? Maybe they ought to research getting some new lines? Never mind that Palin mocked Obama because his books were all about himself, complaining about calling researchers self-indulgent would work better if it wasn't followed by approvingly quoting this:
If the message makes its way through the vacuous, dollar-driven media, Obama will have changed America
Yep: Nasty old dollars. Fancy producing stuff people actually choose to spend their money on. Far better to be a taxpayer-funded parasite.

This is point two. Not only is the whole distinction between smart people and idiots every bit as scientific as gossip columnists drawing up lists of who's hot and who's not, it betrays an underlying contempt for the public at large.

You can talk all you want about the need for blue skies basic research, how the space program produced teflon and how studying the sex lives of dung beetles could lead to a cure for the Welsh and how.... No, enough already. They truly believe that producing stuff that people want is squalid and demeaning and, as a corollary to that, that they - the enlightened! - have the right to waste other people's money on scientific stamp collecting.

See, that's the bottom line. The right isn't attacking science. We just don't believe in paying good money to support the self-indulgent hobbies of an incestuous cesspit of bigoted loonies.

Dhimmis D'Jour

Clearly, another one of those quakers:
'In this case, it's likely that there will be overlapping motives - anger, control, base male brutality and a significant sexual dimension,' the lawyer said.
Mr, we could use some 'base male brutality' round here.

What He Said

NNW rightly ridicules the social shirkers latest tantrum. NNW correctly nails the argument that it's only a tiny minority of bad apples (hmmmm.... why does that sound familiar)? Even if it is a minority, the 'vast majority of peaceful social workers' sure aren't bending over backwards to root them out.

On the contrary, this campaign is evidence of just what a loony bizarro world social work is. They're trying to rebut the image of social workers as Marxist thugs by demanding retribution against people who publish stuff they disagree with? After all, stripped of blather, this is surely what they mean when they talk about holding their critics 'accountable'. Who except for a bunch of Stalinist nutters could ever think this sounds reasonable?

Hey, if social workers were really worried that the public was misinformed about their role, they could always campaign against the already ludicrous restrictions on press reporting of their activities. Funnily enough, they aren't. As ever with liberals, you have the right to their opinion or else!

Bombings Vs Radio: I Always Get Those Two Confused

In so far as Jackie Smith justified banning US radio talker Michael Savage with this...
"I think it's important that people understand the sorts of values and sorts of standards that we have here, the fact that it's a privilege to come and the sort of things that mean you won't be welcome in this country,"
...I guess that means we now have tougher criteria to visit Britain than to move here. Up until ten minutes ago, the merest mention of British values would have liberals foaming at the mouth about The Racism.

True, for those of us outside the loony cult of open borders, there's a certain superficial logic to the government's position, but only if you don't think about it.

Nope, the left's position is absurd, but it does neatly expose just how bogus the whole 'right-wing extremism' thing is. Liberals were specifically searching for right-wing loons to balance up the jihadis and they came up with.... a guy on the radio?

Really? How did that intelligence briefing go then?
"The next extremist is a Mr Michael Savage. We consider him highly dangerous, with a record of biting commentary, sharp words and pointed commentary. Furthermore, sources inform us that he is experimenting with funny voices, which will give him the capability to produce a range of caricatures. In particular, we suspect he'll soon be unveiling a greedy bureaucrat called 'Mr Taxey', an Obama-loving news anchor called Joe Grovel, and an unhinged gay rights activist who keeps threatening the life of anyone who opposes him...

No, wait, sorry I was reading Alan Duncan's file."
Hey, that's an actual fact. Alan Duncan has threatened the life of more people than Michael Savage, so how come Al's just a loveable jack-the-lad, and Mike's a dangerous extremist?

Hmmmm... isn't it the open borders lobby that keeps insisting the whole citizen/non-citizen thing is an evil right-wing trick - even to the point of absurdity? If Michael Savage is being discriminated against while British citizens get away with far harsher rhetoric, isn't that kind of.....racist?

Sounds like a job for Cherie!

Liberals In Hell

Heh. The Obamamessiah has cited Sir Winston as proof that nations don't need to use torture in time of war. Libs just won't know what to do. They've been trying to push the 'Churchill as war criminal' line for years. No wonder the Guardian's commenters are having a melt down.

A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words

As noted in the comments, Ealing General has been having a little trouble with 'gangs'. Who can it be behind this?

Something Happens To Some Guys

Yep, it's another MONAtastic report from the MSM.

Actually, checking out a few reports about this incident, it looks like no one has anything else, so it might be that the police just aren't releasing any information. But that doesn't let the MSM off the hook. Hey, aren't these the people who keep yabbering about the public's (made up) 'right to know'? Everything that MI-5 do, could do or might have done should be public property, but the state concealing the truth about gang war in our nation's capital? That seems fair enough!

Plus, back in the day, wasn't there once a weird sub-culture in journalism that believed in actually tracking down their own sources, rather than needing an information IV from the state?

Like I keep saying, they should only charge half price for the newspapers, since you only ever get half the story.

(Hat Tip as ever to Lurker, Master MONA Spotter)

Kenny Everett Is Dead!

Say what you like about Cameron, but at least he's clamped down on those evil extremists!

Of course, Al was only joking about killing people who disagree with his views. Which is a perfectly normal thing to do, and especially for someone who wants to run the country.

As ever, let's check the scorecard here: talking about murdering political opponents is satire, but writing critical letters, discussing adoption policy or handing out leaflets? Now, that's serious!

These guys: they're all about the equality.

True, this case hardly qualifies as a real threat, but it's a hell of a lot closer to a threat than some guy handing out leaflets. Hey, I'm a free speech maximalist, so I say 'have at it'! These loonies are entitled to joke about murdering their opponents, and we're entitled to ask what it says about their ideology that they think homicidal fantasies are the height of hilarity.

See, this is why 'respectable conservatism' is a bust. Not just because the people lecturing the rest of us keep outing themselves as nasty twerps, but more profoundly because it implies conservatives can and should reach some kind of Munich-style détente with people who are fundamentally unappeasable.

Duncan, Perez Hilton and the rest of these loons aren't advancing an argument or making a point. They're just trying to shout down any dissenting voices. They're nasty, thuggish morons and no conservative worthy of the name should seek the respect of these low-lifes.

Zimbabwe South On Course And On Schedule

Who'd have thunk it? Another liberal icon turns out to be a scumbag.

Shocka! Libs Find Nuance In Racism

NNW with more on the Mysterious Mystery of the Mailers of No Appearance.

You know, I'm pretty sure papers should all be half-price. After all, you only ever get half the story. Still, I'm thinking we are now in a position to rule out any involvement by militant Buddhists.

Wasn't That The Point?

Laban does a compare and contrast on two Seventies icons, and finds the one with the silver spoon upbringing escaped more or less intact, while the Ordinary Jolene sank. And?

Half the point of the counter-culture was for rich kids to ram home their status by showing how it insulated them from the consequences of behaviours that would be disastrous for normal people. Drug addiction, single parenthood and voting Labour are all perfect examples of the destructive lunacy these people proselytised, even as they used their money to go into plush rehab units, hire nannies or move to Devon.

It was the nylon bell-bottom wearing equivalent of all those trustafarians who denounce cheap flights today. Another way to embrace all the worst aspects of leftism, while still being able to sneer at the lower orders.

Latest Score From The Culture Wars

Parliament passing mandatory minimum sentences for certain crimes = a despicable attack on judicial independence

The head of an independent investigatory agency attacking a number of citizens even before his agency has properly started its investigation = the very epitome of an independent tribunal

It's Getting Hard To Be An Extremist

The Tories have finally realised they need to do something about run-away government spending. See? That's the type of insight you get when you're super smart.

Hey, some folks were saying that years ago. Of course, back then The Dave and pals were denouncing anyone who called for restraint as an Eighties throwback who needed to get hip to the beat. Joining Labour on the trip to economic Neverland was proof of their savvy political skills (unlike us losers).

Now it's all gone horribly wrong, the Cameroonatics would like us to acknowledge their genius in boldly predicting an implosion that's already happening and adopting the very policies the jettisoning of which was only months ago proof of The Dave's near-godly status.

On the plus side, I hear Cameron reckons the Blues are a deep cert for the Cup this year.

Happy Lenin's Birthday Everybody!

You know, if a murderous thug had persuaded UKIP to hold a celebration of British culture that just happened to coincide with Hitler's birthday, I think it would get noticed. The lefty equivalent? Not so much.

The Tolpuddle Martyrs Are Dead

There are various things you can take from the results of Alice Miles' binging on sodium penthol, but the main thing that hit me was this: yes, liberals are as gutless as we always thought. Senior Labour MPs would have opposed Brown, but his people might have briefed against them and they couldn't stand nasty things to be said about them, so they stood aside and let the country be handed over to Hamish McQueeg. Of course!

Quote Of The Day

James Lileks on the culture wars:
Every new movement gains its authority by inhabiting and supplanting the authority of the previous movement. It only pretends to deny the legitimacy of the previous idea’s authority. Modern art is all about insisting that THIS IS NOT A PIPE right up to the point where it owns the pipe, at which point it is most certainly a pipe, and the most important pipe ever.

As I Was Saying...

Proof of the stopped clock hypothesis: while the rest of the MSM was busily redbranding Hillsborough as a series of unfortunate events, the Guardian (!!) had a pretty good run-down of just why this is still a live issue on Merseyside, all the more effective for the way it bends over backwards not to ram home any of the loopier issues (seriously, only 3 out of 42 ambulances made it there? What could have happened? An attack by a giant ambulance-eating monster? Or something else)?

That's the flip-side of it all. Almost from the moment it happened, a conga line of sleazy idiots have been claiming to be Jesus on the Cross, boldly standing up for the important principle of.... what, exactly? That, say, a public body facing serious charges should be allowed to issue false press releases without consequence? That's an important principle of British law?

To ask it is to answer it. The Hillsborough grave dancers aren't defending any important principle, in fact, they're happy to trash the basics of British justice, just as long as some Scousers get killed.

Unlike certain David Camerons I could mention, I'm a real conservative, so I think morons should have the right to free speech just as much as anyone else. Hey, like I said before, it's good to have these people tell us who they are. But let's not pretend there's anything virtuous or bold about what they believe. Buying tickets for the South Yorkshire Police Evidence BBQ pretty much kills that line. These people are bloodthirsty bigots and they enjoy seeing people die. Well, whatever. Just don't tell me they're principled.

20th Anniversary Of Something Happening To Some Folks

I've always been sceptical of mass displays of emotion. A mob is a mob, whatever particular form of mass hysteria they're experiencing at a particular time. Still, the whole Hillsborough thing has reminded me of the flip-side of that, the way the whole ceremonial, feel your pain, let's all hold hands side of things can become a displacement activity to deflect from having to deal with the real issues.

Just as the more 9-11 memorials there were, the more it seemed the Twin Towers must have been struck by a meteor, so there's been a strangely passive quality to the MSM's Hillsborough coverage. True, I understand that for several second during the BBC's ten hour Hillsborough marathon, it was possible to hear Sports Minister Andy Burnham being heckled by people chanting 'Justice for Hillsborough' but what form that justice would take, and why they didn't think they had had it already, who could tell? No one dependent on the MSM, that's for sure.

That's why I bit down on the urge to write an obscene comment to this post. Given the MSM's coverage, DV's reaction is fair enough - the only thing I'd say to him is this: given what a bang up job the MSM has done on reporting the grievances of Ulster Protestants, why exactly would you trust them to report fairly on what motivates Hillsborough protesters?

No, that's not a demand that broadcasters get deep into the details of the Gate Tape and the 3.15 cut-off every time they cover Hillsborough, but there's something utterly repellent in this determination to bury serious issues under a ten foot layer of psychobabble.

'Atlas Shrugged' As A Reality Show

This makes perfect sense to me. It's illegal for employers to refuse to hire people it's illegal to employ? Of course! Ayn Rand got there first:
Did you really think we want those laws observed?" said Dr. Ferris. "We want them to be broken. You'd better get it straight that it's not a bunch of boy scouts you're up against... We're after power and we mean it... There’s no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren’t enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible to live without breaking laws.

Well, That, And The MURDER

The BBC: classy as ever.

I'm kind of thinking it was the whole 'gunning down an innocent woman' thing that took the shine off his career. Then again, who says liberals are elitist trash?
The victim, Lana Clarkson, was an out-of-work actress who was earning a living as a hostess at a Hollywood nightclub, so it's not like she was a huge loss.
Actually, I added that last bit, but only that last bit. The good news is that I'm guessing this means that next time a Beeboid gets killed, we'll be able to call them a 'former human, earning a living as a fluffer for murderous celebutards'.

UPDATE:

By way of contrast, this.

Mailers of No Appearance

Got to admit, I've never liked the whole idea of the Joke Police checking e-mail accounts for all the obvious reasons, but there's more to it than that. This case shows the other problem with PC. If these folks are who I think they are - and I think you know who I mean - jokes are the least of it. They hate Jews, and everyone knows it, but leftists would die in a ditch rather than admit that.

This is why we keep seeing anglo professors on TV, telling us what members of the Religion of Peace would say, if only they were on in place of said professor. Every time normal people get the chance to hear the RoP speak for itself, they realise that the left has been lying about Islam for years.

Why Won't You Fascists Respect Them Like You Should?

It's a mystery where the kids get it from.

And Another Thing...

I'm probably the last person in the world to notice this, but not only is there a common theme running through the list of smears planned by McBride, but it's also a completely absurd line of attack. After twelve years of ministers employing their Labradors as press officers and claiming they live in a cornflake packet, being ruled by a bunch of pervs would be a definite improvement.

It's got so bad that even the Shagopocalypse of the Major Years now looks like a lost Golden Age of political integrity. At least they only screwed the public one at a time.

Vitally Important Newsflash

...when people have real problems to deal with, they're less likely to waste money on fantasy ones.

Liberals: Always The Weak Horse

Atheists are enraged! - as only they can be - by the news that the NHS spends up to £40 million pa on hospital chaplains. They think that if people want to spew nonsense at the seriously ill, they should go and become proper psychiatrists.

And no, that isn't just me going for a cheap shot. Key point:
The researchers accept many people believe the drugs do work for them, but argue that could be a placebo effect - people feel better simply because they are taking a medication which they think will help them.
Hmmm.... do you think this 'placebo effect' could apply anywhere else?

More to the point, in so far as the placebo effect is a well-known phenomenon, in what sense of the word is the NSS's crusade against religion in hospitals based on actual science?

Still, while the NSS campaigns for the comforting of the sick and dying to be carried out only where said comforting can be demonstrated to show observable improvements in the degree of comfortage, I can't help feeling they're missing a lot else.

When most people think of faith-based lunacy, they're probably not thinking of some Priest performing the last rites. Nope, they're probably thinking something like this.

I don't have the objective data to back this up, but I'm pretty sure these people are nuts. So where is the NSS? Nope - they're tied up staking out some OAPs bed, investigating a case of Class A Communion With Intent.

McBride Screwed, MSM Not Looking Too Good Either

File this one under 'Delusions of Relevance':
Despite having no journalistic training, Paul Staines has become one of the government’s most powerful critics under the pseudonym Guido Fawkes.
Yowser! Just think what Guido could have done if he was a properly-credentialed member of the Cult of Professional Journalists. He too could have been filing vacuous puff pieces from the Westminister Village, instead of performing actual journalism.

Besides, everyone knows you need proper training to produce high-kwality reportage like this:
[Tim Montgomerie] admits that sometimes the blogging pioneers - untroubled by fears of libel and unchecked by subeditors or lawyers - also get it "badly wrong".
Here's one for the philosophers: is it ironic, or just stupid, that every time highly-trained, professional journalists report on those untrustworthy bloggers, they make the same bogus claim? For the avoidance of doubt, a libel is a libel whether written on the net, printed by the MSM, crotched crocheted into a quilt or urinated into a snowdrift.

Guido doesn't just expose the absurdity of journalism's claim to be a profession, he also exposes the myth that the MSM would just love to turn the heat up on politicians but, gosh darn it, newsrooms just don't have the time or the bodies to do it these days. Apparently, it turns out that finding out what's happening, then writing about it, doesn't take a sack of gold and a cast of thousands after all.

AA + PC = ****

See, this is what I was on about here. I defy anyone to explain how she got her job without using the phrase 'affirmative action'. Consider the likely response to a male MP who came out with something like this:
Miss Smith said: 'When you put in a claim and you put in a receipt on which there are a number of items, people can pick out one of them and say, Why did you claim for that? but that is because you put in the whole of the receipt.'
Yep, she accidentally forgot to cross out the bits she wasn't claiming for and unfortunately pocketed a whole bunch of cash, and anyone who says otherwise is a Nazi.

Robbery For The People

Say what you like about 'The One Show' but in its own unique combination of stupidity and even more stupidity it's has a certain liberals-on-scopalamine quality. Take yesterday's first item: a jolly sermon on the happy side of the state seizing other people's property.

It was all about government legislation allowing councils to seize empty properties.

Cunningly, the average house price was quoted to 'prove' how hard it was to get on the housing ladder. In other words, the BBC used a measure that includes everything from flats to mansions to prove we need Big Government to give out free houses. More specifically, we need Big Government to seize houses from people who aren't using them properly and give them to smackheads oppressed victims of the system.

We saw a boarded-up house on an inner-city street in Manchester and had interviews with local residents, who all agreed the house should be seized, then over to Scallytopia for an interview with the World's Most Articulate Scouser, who agreed that, yes, seizing someone else's house and giving it to him was a Good Thing. What we didn't hear, ever, was any dissenting voices.

In fact, watching that report, you wouldn't even have guessed that these powers allow the government to seize perfectly lovely semis in the suburbs, or that homelessness wasn't simply a matter of rich people using up all the houses, let alone any more sophisticated arguments against it all.

Maybe it was inevitable that there was no one there to point out that allowing the government to seize private property just because they think you're not using it properly is totalitarian insanity, but they didn't even engage with the practical absurdities of it all.

If the state really wants to encourage people to redevelop derelict housing, maybe it could do something about a tax system that does all but sneak in and vandalise the place at night? Ditto, if councils are so good at redeveloping derelict housing stock, why are so many of their own properties permanently wrecked? But no: that would involve engaging with the topic, rather than indulging in mindless boosterism for the Mugabeisation of our nation's housing stock.

(Not to go off at a tangent, but since when was it decided that it was a great feat for councils to successfully renovate properties, armed only with enormous wodges of other people's cash? Seriously, let me bleed taxpayers dry and I'll build you a castle. It's no big.)

Quote Of The Day

Rick McGinnis on liberal sofistikeytes and their love affair with Third World awfulness:
India might be overpopulated, but I fail to see how what goes on there is somehow exempt from the judgment of a rational, enlightened person concerned with basic humanity. Police brutality, mob violence, child labour, brutal and systemic tolerance of poverty - real poverty, and not the 5000 calorie version we see here - is criminal and awful, and we should be able to judge a society that's defined by it, and allow ourselves to respect our discomfort when it's used as colourful scene-setting, instead of downgrading it to the status of the merely quaint by aestheticizing it with words like "gaudy" and "sensory overload."

Class War Update: Libs Shocked, Appalled To Be Treated Like Ordinary People

Yes, indeed: it's the Peterloo Massacre de nos jours. Who could have imagined such a thing happening in this country? Well, apart from footy fans, obviously. This sort of thing is routine in the Beautiful Game. The away fans here got an extra two hours to savour their triumph.

See, this is what happens when you've got socialists who don't actually know any normal people.

Then again, even that is conceding too much to these loonies. Let's not let them define down deviancy here. As Ross points out, even the supposedly peaceful protesters were intending to use force of mass to prevent innocent people going about their business. Equally, for all that they were supposedly opposed to the 'tiny minority of violent extremists' (hmmm... where have I heard that before), they had no trouble marching with them, providing cover for them, and hindering police attempts to deal with them. Oh yeah, that and writing long articles that, by any objective measure, support them.

Hey, if Carol Thatcher's 'golliwog' comment could be shown to be constitute support for violent thuggery as openly as the average liberal freak's comments about the G20 riot do, even conservatives would have agreed with her firing.

After all, the thuggery is not some late afterthought. Even these nutters know they can never win democratically. Their protests-that-are-actually-riots are an attempt to intimidate sane people into thinking that they must have some kind of point after all. It's a goofy vision, but also an inherently fascist one. They claim the right to dictate to everyone else through sheer force of will.

What the G20 riot really reveals is the left's determination to have its cake and eat it. If these freaks succeed in smashing up the town, that proves that our society is weak and corrupt, and deserves to be overthrown by the vanguard of the new order. If they fail utterly, it proves our society is a fascist dictatorship, and deserves to be overthrown by the vanguard of the new order. It's perfect catch-22 - but only if you let liberals set the terms of the debate.

As ever, it comes down to culture war. The same people who jabber endlessly about right-wing hate speech want us to believe that the spoilt brat products of absurd privilege harassing real people constitutes the epitome of democracy. It isn't and it never did, and a less spineless conservative movement would call them out on this.

Another Reason Why I Could Never Be A LIbertarian

Like NNW, I actually think this isn't such a bad idea. Still, it took me a while to work out just what it is that's annoying me so much about the reaction to this plan.

Basically, it's the humbuggery of it all. Libertarians have spent every waking moment since September 11 fantasising about the shadow government using terrorism as an excuse to create a unaccountable paramilitary state, complete with torture chambers, death squads and mind control satellites. Now we have an initiative that's the complete opposite of all that, a plan that involves training up people in how they can use their pre-existing skills to defend their own communities and that just proves how evil the nasty old statists are.

What it all boils down to is reaching out to the guy running a hairdressing supplies business and telling him that if some bloke claims to be setting up a new shop and wants to order one pair of scissors, one razor, one tub of gel and 2500 litres of hydrogen peroxide, dial this number. That's it. This kind of local, grass roots initiative is the very thing that normally sends libertarians weak at the knees.

As NNW points out, this plan is quite in order with the British way of waging war. To add to his examples, consider the trawlermen whose skills (and boats) played a vital role minesweeping in WWII.

But no: the self-same people who've been telling us that, gosh darn it, they do hate terrorists too, but they're a little concerned about freedom, turn out to oppose counter-terrorism even when no black helicopters are involved. I guess that's what you get when 70% of your ideology rests on the ability put sneer quotes round everything.

Lost Without Trace

Could the BBC's slobbering love affair with The One get any more ludicrous?

That's not to say the Obamamessiah doesn't have his own...uh...style:

The BBC: the Special Olympics of journalism.

UPDATE:

Even the Guardian is mocking the Obamamessiah now, and then there's this:

UPDATE II:

Oh yeah - here's the video that inspired that Guardian article:

Femiloon Bar Mitzvah Ends Badly

Hey, who'd have thunk surgery could be dangerous?

Anyone want to guess at the percentage of femiloons who hate plastic surgery but think abortion is the best thing evah? 80%? 90%?

I'm sure there are plenty of folks who are pro-abortion who nevertheless are repelled by the femiloon's determination to cast a serious operation as some kind of rite of passage.

Motorbiker Of No Appearance

I've got to admit to certain admiration for the guy who wrote this - it's quite an achievement to produce 131 words on a topic and include no useful content whatsoever. Must be one of these 'shop related homicides'.

(and a dip of the throttle - as ever - to Lurker for finding it)

There's Never A Flying House Round When You Need One

The case of that 20-something chef accused of rape by a vengeful femiloon is truly terrifying. Can you imagine waking up next to a 45 year old lawyer? As I understand it, he first realised he was in trouble when she told him 'I'll get you my pretty and your little dog too'.

Of course, the fact the jury came back with a not guilty verdict after 45 minutes does raise an important question: what the hell were they discussing for the other 44 minutes? Whether counsel for the prosecution was on the other bus or what?

Then again, never mind the jury: what thought process convinced the CPS that this case was a runner? Isn't the whole point of an independent prosecutor that there has to be an actual case before charges can be bought?

Ah nope - apparently the case was handled by two 'rape specialists' - so in the femiloon-infested Bizarro World of the public sector an independent prosecutor means a pair of Milli Tants. What could go wrong? Oh right: 45 minutes.

Hmmm.... doesn't this all kind of imply the 'rape specialists' are kind of rubbish at their jobs? Doubtless, they will be fired ASAP. Well, either that, or their job involves green lighting any old rubbish, in which case I ask - again - where's Universal Shami when real rights are being denied?

Yes, I'm serious: an independent prosecuting authority is a vital safeguard against governmental persecution. The government ordering the CPS to suspend their normal criteria for prosecution really is an abuse of power - a real one, not just a made up one no one noticed until 1997 - so how come the usual suspects can't drag themselves away from defending the mad bomber to speak out for actual citizens?

....

Yep, I think the clue is in the question there.

Meanwhile, the femiloons are struggling with the difficult concept of 'evidence'. Also, the whole 'free press' thing.

Hey, I'm guessing that if the public is sceptical of many rape claims that might have less to do with the media reporting stuff that, y'know, actually happened, and more with femiloons all but claiming that even if the complainant is a card-carrying wackjob, the man should be found guilty anyway, or the rapists will have won. Still, nice to see them outing themselves as the man-hating loons we always knew they were.

Maybe I'm being too harsh? Maybe they're just over-enthusiastic? Except... how come they're more enraged by pretendey rapes invented by a fantasist than the police hobbling the investigation into a real rape?

So, for those of you keeping score at home, here it is: made up rapes = enraged femiloons, police running interference for an actual rapist = zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Never mind the bigotry and the dishonesty: their biggest problem is that they are completely nutso.

All of which leads to another important issue here. Here we have a lawyer who doesn't actually understand the law, so are we still misogynists if we think the silly hag should be fired? Ditto, the rape not so specialists at the CPS. For that matter, what about the charmers at the 'F Word'? Doesn't the....

Ah no: I've just read the bit at the bottom of their 'convict him anyway' page. Their blog is a 'safe and friendly space for feminists and feminist allies'... where they can accuse innocent men of rape. Now, isn't that just modern life in microcosm? Feminazi hag demons give full vent to their unhinged ideology but anyone who argues with them is oppressing them (ker-ching!).

This is why the country's so screwed up. Thanks to years of affirmative action and PC companies have been forced to hire useless loonies and everyone has to pretend they're anything other than dead weight. Really, given the choice, who the hell would hire the Wicked Witch of Winchester?
