Guido is uncharacteristically gentle with the now-ex Cameron groupie Peter Oborne when he deserves much worse, and not just because Oborne's rose-tinted specs only seem to come out with MPs from a certain demographic.

Oborne is shocked - shocked - to find sleaze going on here, but who was hiding that from Petey in the first place? On the contrary, Oborne spent years writing about the question marks over Cameron's integrity. Which is to say he spent years sliming anyone who raised questions about Cameron's integrity. Now he's finally where the bumpkins and bigots got to years ago, he wants us to admire his integrity.

Oborne wasn't just wrong about Cameron, he was the opposite of right. You'd have been better off listening to just about anyone in the conservative base instead of Certified Deep Conservative Thinker Peter Oborne.

Even now Oborne doesn't get it. The Coulson thing doesn't just undermine Cameron's moral posturing, it also undercuts the main excuse for Cameronism in the first place. We were assured that whatever Cameron's ideological shortcomings, he was a political genius. Now he's landed himself in a completely unnecessary scandal, where's all that genius gone?

Hey, remember those evvvvvvvil raycists who abused innocent 'Asian' anti-war activists in Luton? Well, you never guess guess but....

Yep, released without charge. Which is to say arrested on bogus grounds, put through the mill, smeared in the press, then released just as soon as our PC PCs have to front up with some evidence. Who'd have thunk it?

Equally shocking: the same MSM which supplies us with the names of folks who aren't actually guilty of anything at all, are kind of coy when reporting on the possible motivations of rioting scumbags. Clearly, they must be a Mob of No Appearance. True, the distinctly non-diverse mob in the photo does hint at the truth, as does the cringingly dhimmi response from the Head, but from the MSM reporting you'd think the teacher in question was a Mathematician of No Affiliation. Guess his lessons must have been a real blast, eh?

Sympathy Meter Stuck On Zero

Oh sure, the arrest of a Tory MP - and on such clearly loopy charges - certainly cranks up the political temperature, but Pearl Harbour this ain't.

Arrests on ludicrous grounds? Hey, at least they didn't arrest Green's mother on charges of being a tomato dealer.

Use of police to harass folks with the wrong opinions? Yes, that certainly rings a few bells.

And what has been the response of the Tories to all this?

No, not nothing. It's worse than that. The Tories might not have agreed with the left on the specifics (or, indeed, they might have) but they certainly bought into the underlying world view, that there are views so extreme that those who hold them don't deserve to have the same rights as everyone else.

It's the philosopher and the actress again. Remember that story? The philosopher offers an actress a million pounds if she'll sleep with him and she agrees. The philosopher then says 'well, how about ten pounds' and she says 'what do you think I am? A prostitute?', to which he replies 'oh sure, we've already determined that, now we're just quibbling about price'. The Tories have already climbed into bed with leftist thugs, everything else is detail.

So excuse me if I give the whole 'Day of Infamy' thing a miss.

Another One Bites The Dust

Talking of the police and their 'arrest first' policy, there's been another case of the thing that never happens.

Note this bit:

Gemma Capon, 20, invented the allegation after she and Graham Tysoe's turbulent six-month relationship came to an end.

She told detectives he forced his way into their home and attacked her on the living room sofa.

Mr Tysoe, also 20, was arrested in front of colleagues at the pub where he works as a chef and held for almost 24 hours.

He was interviewed, had his DNA, fingerprints and mugshot taken and was subjected to intrusive forensic examinations.

When police confronted Capon with discrepancies in her story a day later she confessed that she had made it all up and was charged with wasting police time.

So this was never a 'He said, She Said' - they never had sex anyway, which is kind of important in a rape case (the laws not as complex as some people would have you believe). Ditto, there's no evidence of forced entry, and the complaint falls apart as soon it's seriously questioned - but that's still enough to put an innocent man through the mill.

Key question: did they do all this to the victim - the real one - in spite of the weakness of the complaint or because of it? In other words, did they rush it all through before the case fell apart?

Apparently, the new policy is 'zero tolerance for made up crimes against women'.

Even The Police Are Getting Hacked Off With The Police

Actually, that's kind of harsh: Coppersblog has always been a bastion of common sense, so I'm not surprised to find that even they are starting to object to the police's 'arrest early, arrest often' policy.

They make an important point: not only is this sort of thing lead to victimisation of innocent members of the public (like here!), it also results in police officers wasting huge amounts of time on this rubbish.
