Clearly, They Need A Professional Audience

Further to my earlier point re: the inevitable decline of feminism, it looks like even some of the coven's top hags are, frankly, getting rather fed up with the refusal of their fellow wimminz to shut their stupid ho mouths and get a damn good liberatin'.
Also jurors – in particular female ones – do not want to face the fact that those who commit rape include a broad cross section of men, and rarely fit the stereotype of a masked madman leaping out of a bush.
Yes, indeed: the lunatic fringe 91% are out of step with the mainstream. Hence the desire to switch from a 'jury of your peers' to a jury of, well, fellow fanatics, actually.

Call me suspicious, but I'm not sure I'd trust Julie Bindel with deciding whether or not men deserve to be jailed...

But it turns out though that it's not just the jury pool where the New Girl Order is having recruitment problems. In the world of pop culture, it turns out that they came, they saw.... they got their ass kicked, actually.

But you can't have a Stalingrad without a Kursk afterwards. The SJWs might have taken a beating at the box office but if they couldn't actually launch their own films - or even other people's films that were done way better years ago - they could surely punish any Wrongthink... couldn't they?
The newly released superhero (or supervillain, to be precise) movie Suicide Squad has already outgrossed the feminist-friendly remake of Ghostbusters in its first weekend, despite Ghostbusters now being released almost a month ago.
Turns out the only people who got any payback were the investors.

And it gets even better:
Despite allegations of sexism, the film performed exceptionally well amongst women. As The Hollywood Reporter reveals: “The biggest surprise in terms of audience makeup was the strong turnout among females, who made up 46 percent of Friday’s audience, according to exit poling service CinemaScore. That’s unusual for a superhero film.”
Who knew? Young girls would rather identify with sexy and funny characters doing cool stuff, than with a herd of Bitchapotamus with permanent PMT.

BTW, that's for a movie that has suffered one of the most absurd post-production butcherings in movie history, with the studio trying to edit what was filmed as a darker alternative to the Avengers into a Deadpool style comedy (see the change in the tone of the trailers here).

Failure to ram Ghostbusters down the public's throat showed that SJWs could no longer hector the public into leaving the house and paying £12 for a movie, but Suicide Squad is an even bigger defeat for them. It shows they can't even sell people on staying at home.

OTOH, there's always true feminist icon Emma Watson...

Culture War: Charlton!

The Omega Man opens with Charlton Heston - see, it sounds great already - driving his convertible through the streets, clad in a safari suit and with tunes playing on his 8-track - the epitome of 70s cool. It's takes a few seconds to realise that the streets are kind of trashy, even for LA, then a few seconds more to realise that they're also kind of empty... Say, you don't think a Sino-Russian border conflict has spiralled into global biological warfare, resulting in the extermination of humanity, do you?

Funnily enough: yes.

Yep, Charlton Heston is the last man on Earth, and the bad news is he's not alone. A weirdo clan of deranged, albino plague victims emerge at night and lay siege to Charlton's pad, while he hunts them down by day, in a movie so conservative, mere contact with the DVD causes liberals to spontaneously combust.

Take Heston's character: he's Colonel Robert Neville, an unapologetic military man who always dresses for dinner on a Sunday. Meanwhile, the deranged plague victims, known as 'The Family', are led by a former MSM news anchor who preaches the dangers of technology and condemns Neville as the 'last of the scientist, bankers, businessmen and users of the wheel' - so apart from the hideous appearance he's just your typical Lib Dem.... wait, that's exactly like your typical Lib Dem.

Of course, in so far as these freaks reject technology, they're kind of at a disadvantage when dealing with a user of the trigger like Neville. Contenting themselves with bombarding his apartment building with giant catapults and attacking him with axes, petrol bombs and even bare hands, making up for what they lack in weapons with numbers and homicidal insanity (geeks: think the castle cultists in Resident Evil 4). Meanwhile, Neville fights back with courage, cunning and lots of guns.

The first act is brilliant, but if the story starts to drift afterwards, the conservatism cranks up a notch when Neville falls in with a group of fellow humans, all slowly succumbing to the virus. What to do? Well, as it happens, Neville has been vaccinated against the virus and his blood could yet save them. So not only are firearms useful when repelling liberals but science can yet save the day. At which point you're wondering if the script writers were competing to see who could annoy the left the most.

Fortunately, as Neville is also a top scientist, he manages to purify enough blood to save a young black kid from the brink of joining the plague-infested weirdoes. At which point Junior decides to sneak off to The Family's lair - in a court house -and pass on the good news: he's been saved, and so they can they be. Oops - as our MSM guy explains from the judges' bench, they're not victims, they're quite happy being liberals mutant weirdoes, and furthermore as a non-freak, he deserves to die - and so another black kid is sacrificed to goofy liberal values.

Anything else? Well, how about Charlton Heston - the guy Michael Moore got a Oscar for smearing as a racist - taking part in the silver screen's first mainstream inter-racial sex scene? Or The Family's even more bonkers Number 2 being an ex-black power dude? Or that the longer the film goes on, the more explicit the Christian overtones? Or the fact that - in a break from Hollywood tradition - the film is based on Richard Matheson's filthy, sleazy, disgusting, nihilistic book 'I Am Legend', yet inverts the meaning 180? Or just the plain respect for the utility of violence and the refusal to enter into slippery '28 Days Later' moral equivalence imbecility?

An Idea Whose Time Has Come

In so far as the usual suspects are raging about executive compensation, how about a nice dose of sauce for the goose?

And yes, in case you're wondering: in addition to Lottery money and arts grants, our thespians have also managed to intersperse demanding that your taxes go up to save the polar bear from racism with campaigning for a whole set of tax breaks of their own.

TDL Nails It

The never knowingly SFW TDL on the movie biz:
In fact T.I.F.F CEO Piers Handling (we have reached pretentious name overload) opined that "A lot of filmmakers are picking up on the Zeitgeist (of the Iraq War)" Zeitgeist, of course, is German for effusive self-congratulatory rubbing.

Selling Sleaze

US uber-blogger Ace points out the humbuggery inherent in an ’Indie’ movie world which worships at the altar of radical innovation, even while drowning in its own clichés. It’s the same kind of annoying as hearing campus Lefties pay fulsome tribute to their own heroism in denouncing Blair.

Still, that set me to thinking about one of the media clichés I most despise, namely the fetishisation of the dysfunctional. What is it that convinces media luvvies that they can get away with filling the scripts with trite 2D caricatures, providing the characters are hooked on crack, insane, terrorists or some other version of scum ? Take 2006’s worst show ‘Torchwood’. Here was a group of stereotypical charcters presented with no back story at all but, hey, they were constantly banging each other, so that’s nearly the same as depth.

There’s more to it than just bad television though. Consider this point:

Tonight’s the night Hollywood takes a break from disclaiming responsibility for any of the culture’s ills to congratulate itself for having so much influence over the culture.
We’ve had at least thirty years of the media portraying the violent, the depraved and the just plain crazy as more lifey, more sparky, just plain more authentic than people with actual jobs. Plus, we’ve had the Yang to that Yin, with movies like ‘American Beauty’ depicting normality as the worst fate that can possibly befall anyone. Are we really sure that there’s no connection between this phenomenon and the chaotic lives of the underclass as chronicled by folks like PC DC ?
