You Know You're A Liberal If....

You read this as a criticism of Castro.

Surely the reverse is true: "You Know You're A Liberal If...it never occurred to you that this might reflect badly on Castro."

I recall when the story came out that the Allies had handed Soviet POWs back to Stalin after WW2 and he promptly executed the lot, this was regarded as showing the wickedness of the West, not the Soviets. In the same way I would be staggered if Cuba using slave labourers was regarded as demonstrating anything more than the wickedness of IKEA.

Political prisoners have long been used to aid the revenue of a country (or their allies). The Soviets did it in the Gulags, the Chinese did it - and probably still do - when they are not harvesting organs from execute political prisoners to sell to the ruling elite. IKEA have been suspected for quite a while of riding roughshod over basic human rights and they won't be the last company to be so accused. With the 'Hunger and Poverty Causing Games' coming up soon, I wonder how much of the equipment used is made in the poorer parts of the world with people like 11 year old Gupta (name changed to protect the oh so innocent)earning $3 a day while working 12 hours a day, and sleeping beneath his work bench, to provide the world's sporting elite with the equipment to give them fame and wealth. In my Olympics, the competitors would have to manufacture their equipment from raw materials thesmelves. That would show the true Olympian spirit.
