Quote of the Day

Kyle Smith notes a certain contradiction in the arguments for public broadcasting:
Please let’s not make the argument that it’s government’s job to identify and provide “high culture” in the name of improving all of us. Haven’t we all learned that there are many cultures, all equally vibrant and valid? NPR is as monolithic in its taste as a 1950s Social Studies class

Thought you might like this. James Lileks on the Ricochet podcast, reflecting on the midterm results:

If it had been a bad day, if it had been a big blow-out yesterday, I would probably have said something like, "Well, I consoled myself by clubbing some baby seals and denying some poor people government rations." What do liberals say when they lose? How do they parody themselves? I mean do they say, "I consoled myself with a couple of late-term abortions"? How do they parody themselves exactly?
