Kenneth Williams On British Education

Watching 1964’s Carry On Cleo, I had a revelation. Here’s the Carry On movies, the epitome of lowest common denominator humour, yet the movie itself is packed with gags alluding to ancient Rome, Latin and Shakespeare. After forty two years of continuous educational improvement, can anyone really imagine a script aimed at the same demographic these days containing jokes like that ?
